Why do some chefs not care what their food looks like? Why would someone spend hours perfecting flavors, only to serve a dish that looks messy, rustic—or even ugly?

In this video, we dig into the ugly truth about plate design. From taste-first legends like Julia Child and David Chang to ideas borrowed from Brutalism and Wabi-Sabi, you’ll discover why some chefs intentionally skip Instagram-perfect plating—and why it might be the most honest form of food design there is.

Another ugly but delicious japanese curry recipe

Personally, i feel like i added too much water and curry blocks. I think 1 curry block provides enough flavour and saltiness for 1 person

Ingredients used:
– Udon noodles
– Japanese curry blocks
– Raw eggs x2
– Chinese spinach (mine were washed and frozen. But you can use fresh ones)
– Pork dumplings (or any other kind of dumplings are suitable)
– Thinly sliced pork (mainly used for hotpot)

I cooked the sliced pork separately as i didn’t like the residue / scum from boiling raw meat in my food. So i cooked it separately. So when you cook it the 2nd time, you don’t have to cook too long or you can add it last. Since the first round is already cooked.

No oil used in this recipe since you could just boil the ingredients. Which makes the stovetop cleanup much easier. Since it’s just boiling ingredients, its easier to cook too.
