*NEW* Extreme Declutter & Organize 2021 | Messy to Minimalism Series | Basement & Garage [PART 1]

In this video, my husband and I are decluttering and organizing (well, mainly decluttering!) our unfinished basement and garage! Talk about SCARY!! These spaces really are! Since we (mostly) finished remodeling and construction work on our 1960s home we have had a lot of old broken house pieces and construction leftovers that need to go to the dumps. Also, the remodeling process, which we did almost entirely ourselves took us well over a year to complete and we started it after we first moved into this home in November of 2019, so MOST of our belongings were STILL packed up in boxes in either the basement or garage. We’re talking like 80% of our belongings from the old house! We used to have a 3,300 square foot home but we made the decision to sell it and downsize into this 1,000 square foot fixer-upper in order to reduce our cost of living, be able to live on one income (so I could quit my job when we had kids), and also to help us learn to live in less space (since we were already interested in minimalism). So, because we have been living without the majority of our possessions anyways, it makes getting rid of (donating, selling, or throwing away any junk) a lot easier because we don’t have as strong attachments to it any longer. Mind you, a lot of the belongings we had were stuff we got either on sale and we didn’t end up really like it or it’s just a mix of styles as my husband and I combined our stuff when we got married. So we little by little want to start fresh as finances allow.

This video is ONLY Phase 1 of the entire basement and garage decluttering. This is just the START of the downsizing and minimizing in these spaces so unfortunately it is not an entire crazy transformation with epic before and afters! I wish it were, but little by little we will chip away at the decluttering and soon enough we will have an impressive before and after. I hope this video is encouraging to you. Maybe you’ve got some overwhelming spaces too that need a lot of decluttering/organizing/cleaning and it’s taking you time to accomplish too. If so, we can do this! Even if it’s little by little! My “Messy to Minimalism” Series takes you with me as I go through the ENTIRE house decluttering and organizing to become more minimal! I hope it is extremely motivating and helps you declutter and organize your own home as you CLEAN WITH ME! This is going to be a HUGE process so prepare for lots of videos throughout the whole thing!
