Never in the history of our service delivery system have we asked so much of our direct support professionals. DSPs are the foundation of the Developmental Disability (DD) field. They are friends, nurses, coaches, and everything in between. They are there during medical emergencies. They are there evenings, birthdays, and holidays. They are there when someone just needs a friend. DSPs make miracles happen every day. Sometimes, we just don’t see them.
In the midst of the 2020 Coronavirus outbreak, DSPs have stepped up yet again to provide care, support, and safety for the most vulnerable in our society. DSPs are the unsung heroes of the DD community. Just like other healthcare workers in this crisis, there are no days off when it comes to providing quality service to those who need it most.
March is Developmental Disability Awareness Month. Join our CEO Mark Schlater in applauding all the DSPs and direct care professionals who are protecting the rights of people with disabilities across our nation during this crisis.
