How to build a minimalist capsule wardrobe

For day 16 of our New Year, New Earth journey, we are sharing tips on minimalism and building a capsule wardrobe. Minimalism and zero waste are both about simplifying. The idea is that when you have less, you waste less. Genevieve shows you how living lighter helps her save money, space, time, energy and waste. What’s most important when going minimal is to create a simple and versatile wardrobe you love, that matches your lifestyle. The trick to defining your personal style is to consider your daily activities, decide which colors you love the most, and figure out the styles and outlines that work for you. A great first step is to find a friend or stylist who can tell you honestly what you wear the most and what looks best on you and then help you decide what to get rid of. Once you’ve started to pare down, it helps to create a set of rules for what clothes you’ll bring into your home. Some questions to ask yourself might be “Does this go with at least 5 other pieces of clothing in my closet?” “How often will I wear this?” “Does it fit me and is it ready to wear?” (and if not, do you love it enough to repair or tailor it) and finally, “Do I really love it?” Sometimes placing a buying hold can help… watch the video to find out what we mean and hear more of Genevieve’s advice for creating a capsule wardrobe!
