Maker Communities Respond to COVID-19 – Online Meetup
Maker communities around the world have responded to the COVID-19 crisis swiftly with a mission to save lives. These teams of makers, manufacturing companies, designers, citizen scientists, engineers, medical professionals and other stakeholders are swiftly gathering in a bottom-up, avengers-style to fight the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
These local actors are not only leveraging the power of quick prototyping that digital fabrication can provide, but are also acting as important organizers of essential logistic projects, creating solutions that require quick collaboration happening at the local level.
In this online session, we invite maker community leaders to share their experiences and answer your questions. Participants can join via Zoom video conferencing (sign up here!) or on YouTube Live on FabCafeTV.

FabCafe is a place that conveys and spreads the “Fab” spirit in a delicious, fun, and easy-to-understand way that is not constrained by the logic of mass production or the market. Digital fabrication machines such as 3D printers and laser cutters are installed in the café where people gather for workshops, creative community meetups, or a good cup of coffee.
The GLUG community has over 40 chapters in cities around the world, including GLUG Tokyo, which was launched in January 2020. GLUG started in 2007. At the time, 20 people in a pub in London decided to overhaul the then-stiff, boring, and awkward corporate networking landscape. That’s why they created an event series for independent and inspirational creatives and innovators to gather and inspire each other.
